Maine acquires fast forward, sibling of UNH star

Another speedy forward will join the University of Maine men's hockey team
for the 2000-2001 season. South Boston's Brendan Donovan, who plays for the
Billings (Mont.) Bulls of the America West Hockey League, has verbally
committed to attend Maine, according to Billings coach and general manager
Bliss Littler. The 20-year-old Donovan, a 6-foot, 180-pound right winger,
is the younger brother of Rob Donovan, who played for the University of New
Hampshire from 1991-94. Rob Donovan was voted UNH's Most Exciting Player in
1993 and '94.
 
"Brendan is an outstanding kid. He's got very good speed. He's able to beat
defensemen wide. He skates a little bit like [current Bear] Barrett
Heisten. And he's gritty," Littler said.
 
Donovan is the third-leading scorer in the league with 37 goals and 56
points in 39 games, according to Littler.
 
Donovan is a full scholarship player and chose Maine over several other
eastern schools, Littler said.
 
Donovan will be the second player from the Bulls to play at Maine. Current
Bears winger Tommy Reimann, who has just returned to action after missing
two months with post-concussion syndrome, played three years under Littler.
