Ben Guite was drafted by the Montreal Canadians with their pick in the
seventh-round. (number 172) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft held on Saturday in
Pittsburgh.
Two other Maine players, Jason Price and Steve Kariya, were thought to have
shots at being selected but neither were taken. Price had been ranked in
the sixth-round by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau.
The top college player was Ben Clymer taken by the Boston Bruins with their
pick in the second-round. Hockey East players Mike Souza (UNH), Jeff
Farkas (BC), Kevin Caulfield (BC), Mike Mottau (BC), Tommi Degerman (BU),
and Richard Miller (PC) were taken.
