BU Coach Parker Offered Bruins Job
BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Bruins offered Boston University coach Jack
Parker their vacant coaching job today and expect his decision by Monday.
Parker, 52, met for about an hour with Bruins general manager Harry
Sinden and assistant general manager Mike O'Connell, according to team
spokesman Rusty Ingram.
It was Parker's second meeting with team officials since Steve Kasper was
fired April 18, five days after the Bruins ended the season with the worst
record in the NHL. They missed the playoffs for the first time in 30 years.
In 24 seasons under Parker, BU won two NCAA titles and appeared in the
tournament 14 times. The Terriers were 26-9-6 this season and lost in the
NCAA Finals to North Dakota 6-4.
The only other candidate the Bruins are known to have interviewed was
Mike Keenan, fired early this season as coach of the St. Louis Blues.
