The U.S.' performance was an embarassment in Nagano and its play on the
ice was too. As I discussed this earlier with a friend, the 1996 World
Cup made the U.S. into something they proved in 1998 they are not: a
hockey power on the global stage. That, and it pissed Canada off too. I
think Bobby Stewart summed it up best when he said the Americans were
good for a gold medal every 20 years. Of course this is coming from
someone whose country hasn't won Olympic gold since 1952 in Oslo. Kind
of a drought eh?
