We will be changing the SSL certificate used by NM (Network Management).
We have had SSL enabled on NM for some time using a certificate signed
by our internal certificate authority using the named.unet.maine.edu
name. However, very few people actually used it.
Due to increasing security threats, we are trying to secure things
better where we can. To that end, we have purchased an SSL certificate
for the name "nm.maine.edu" and will be installing it in place of the
old one.
We will also be setting up redirects for the other names used for nm
(nm.msln.net, named.unet.maine.edu, nm.unet.maine.edu) to direct web
connections into the https://nm.maine.edu/ name. This will prevent
passwords and userids used in NM from crossing the network unencrypted.
This message is a heads up so that when you notice the URL you are
connected to changing to https://nm.maine.edu/ you won't be surprised
and if your browser pops up a message about the new certificate, you
will know why.
