I would hardly call the situation in the last 2+ minutes of the game
"desperate". Try unfortunate. They were down only one goal. The call was
the right call, against the right team; one you pull out once a year, maybe
two. Unfortunately, Maine had better watch its use of sticks the remainder
of the season, also.
I used to have a habit of watching from behind the benches many years ago
at away games, and calling out when banana sticks came out; I rarely do it
anymore. Remember, it NEVER happens when the other team is at your
building -- the wacky sticks come out of the the back recesses of the
equipment room when the offending team is "desperate".
>It's too bad that Coach Walsh had to resort to that kind of desperation tactic
>to get a call on BU. Having Fitzy and I can't think of the linesman's name,
>(same one as the last time Fitzgerald called a very poor game - Jones????)
There was a good possibility Fitzy would never have found the offending
stick (needle in a haystack comes to mind, let alone he can't see penalties
in the open ice). There is no minor against BU if a "good" stick had been
measured -- Maine then would have been penalized. When the scrum occurred
beside the BU bench, Maine had already made the call for the illegal stick.
Then, the either-or situation was in play. Wansborough had to insure the
banana stick was the one shown to Fitzy.
>>Wansborough has to keep his anger in check. Fitzy in stripes could have
>>led a parade
>>into the penalty box like he did at the Merrimack game.
>I'm really surprised he didn't get 10 for trying to strip the stick out the
>BU skater's hands, there was no need for that. The refs would have grabbed
>it anyway. BU would have been nailed with a minor anyway even if they
>found a way to loose the stick.
It might get ugly tonight.
