Loya Honored By New England Hockey Writers Association


ORONO, Maine.-- University of Maine men's ice hockey senior defenseman Cliff
Loya (Pittsburgh, Pa.) received the New England Hockey Writers Association
Outstanding Defenseman Award announced on Tuesday, April 8. He was the lone
Black Bear honored this year by the Writers Association.

Loya saw action in all 39 games for the Black Bears this season and led the
team in plus/minus with a +23 rating. He scored one goal and added six
assists for seven points on the season and was named the Old Time Hockey
Best Defensive Defenseman Award recipient presented at the Hockey East
banquet in March.

Loya was one of just five Hockey East players to receive honors. The New
England Hockey Writers Association will hold its annual awards banquet on
April 16 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.
