Maine is now down to two possibilities for its Hockey East
Quarterfinal matchup, UNH or Northeastern.

Should the Bears beat UMass Saturday night *AND* New Hampshire beats
or ties Lowell Maine will play at Northeastern next weekend as the #5
seed.

Should Lowell win, regardless of what happens vs. UMass, Maine will
travel to UNH as the #6 seed.

I'm sure most Maine fans would agree that Maine will fare better
against Northeastern than against a UNH team clearly playing below
their potential of late. Maine has beaten UNH in Durham once this
year, but to win two of three against them is a tall task.

What could throw a monkey-wrench into this is that UNH cannot move up
or down in the standings. Win or lose UNH is the #3 seed in the
Hockey East tournament. Lowell has much more to gain and/or lose in
this game.

In addition, UMass could give Maine a very tough game. With #8
Merrimack playing at #1 Boston University Sunday, UMass needs a win to
get into the playoffs, and even then must wait to see what happens
Sunday. Merrimack often plays BU hard, but it is tough to beat the
Terriers in their own barn.

It should be an exciting night to watch what happens. It may be like
kissing one's sister, but the Black Bears need the Wildcats to win!
