Here are some WC boxscores. I forgot to save the boxscore for the
Canada-Switzerland game. The Canadian team is starting off very well.
Sweden and Russia are their top rivals and Canada topped Sweden yesterday.
The US does not sound that strong but the initial results are somewhat
encouraging. The Czech Republic and Finland are the favorites in this
group and the US has tied both of them. That seems to leave the US with a
decent shot at the top of this group.

I hope some Finns can provide information from this game (I didn't see the
whole game). The Finns took the lead on a Jarkko Varvio slap shot from the
blue line, and a soft goal for an unscreened Mike Richter.
As far as the play in the second period goes, the Finns seemed to have the
most control, so a 1-0 lead was warranted as I saw it.

        Hockey World Championships in Germany
          CZE-USA 1-1

Goals :
        1st period : none
        2nd period : none
        3rd period : 1-0 46.45 Kadlec(Kaloun,Hrbek)
                     1-1 53.13 Hatcher

Penalties: CZE : 6 * 2 min
            USA : 9 * 2 min

The 1st period was fast and both teams were great in both ends,
although no goals were scored. The Czechs (how the hell do you spell it
anyway?) held the puck a bit more than the Americans, but team USA had their
chances too. Partially the fact that no goals were scored was due to the great
goalies, Petr Briza and Michael Dunham, partially it was just bad luck.
The first 15 minutes of the 2nd period were not that good hockey at all
There were lots of penalties, and although Czechs had power play 8 minutes in
row, they did not manage to score. The rest of the period was again fast and
good hockey. Both teams had their opportunities but Dunham played again
tremendously well.
Finally, at 46.45 Kadlec scored. He shot behind a light mask and
although the goal looked like it was an easy one, Dunham didn't have much
chance on that one.
At 53.15 Hatcher scored an equalizer. He shot hard about 5 meters from
Brizas goal and Briza didn't stand a chance.
The best player was Michael Dunham, the goalie of team USA. He did
a trulu outstanding job and made no errors. Briza was a bit uncertain at times
at the other end but had a good game, too.
