When I joined this discussion list last week I eagerly anticipated
reading hockey related mail every day. After discovering that nearly
40% of the contributions concern pep bands and their accessories,
I have had enough. What a disapointment. No offense to Wayne Smith
or any other serious hockey fans, but I don't have the time to sort
out the nonsense from the real news. Also thanks to WTS for telling
me about rec.sport.hockey.

At the risk of getting severly flamed, I'd like to agree with Mike. Last year
the list was great. This year the signal to noise ratio has dropped
considerabley and I find myself deleting a large fraction of the messages
without even reading them (thank goodness for subject lines:)). I'll repeat
what I said earlier this year - the game reports, inside information about the
teams, discussions of ratings, referees, rules, etc. is what this list should
focus on. An occasional Zamboni story or other "lighter" posting is great
(OCCASIONAL being the key word). This year, however, I have found that many of
the postings are not of interest to me. I am not saying that these postings
are not interesting, just that this is perhaps not the right forum for them.
Since this is the second time I have posted my feelings, I will not bring this
up again. If everyone else feels the message content has been what they are
looking for, then I can accept that and will keep my mouth shut.

To turn to hockey (what a refreshing idea), I am sorry that I have not been
able to bring you news about Dartmouth's games yet. I was out of the country
for the only home game we had. In general, the team is very positive and
looking forward to the rest of the season. How many other teams can make the
statement that they have already (after only 4 games!) bettered their previous
season's league record.
