Although it may sound sexy or impressive to boast a 200x100 surface,
could it have an impact on the quality of the game?  In the NHL or
in Europe, where the skaters are generally faster than college hockey
(An opinion here!), the larger surface may not be a problem.  But in
the college game alittle tighter surface may make for a more tight
checking, physical, exciting game (depending on what you're looking
for.)  Kind of like the difference between indoor and outdoor soccer!
 
I suppose this is true even for the NHL.  Chicago Stadium was one of
the smallest surfaces in the NHL.  Some of the more exciting games I
have seen in the NHL happened in that building, on that ice!
