PROVIDENCE COLLEGE HOCKEY NOTES:
FRIARS POST  A 1-1-1 MARK... The Providence College men's hockey team
posted a 1-1-1 mark last week.  On Tuesday, Nov. 25, Northeastern
defeated
the Friars, 3-2, at Matthews Arena and ended the Friars' six-game
winning
streak.  Sophomore Doug Sheppard (Georgetown, Ontario) and junior Mike
Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.) each scored for PC.  Freshman goaltender
Boyd
Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 21 stops and suffered the first
loss
of his collegiate career.  In the first game between the two teams since
1984, PC defeated Yale, 5-2, at Schneider Arena on Friday, Nov. 28.
Sophomore Fernando Pisani (Edmonton, Alberta), junior Jon Cameron
(Langley,
British Columbia) and Omicioli each registered three points to lead the
offense.  Pisani (two goals), Cameron, junior Troy Lake (Edmonton,
Alberta)
and junior Jon Coe (Anoka, Minn.) all scored for PC.  Junior netminder
Mark
Kane (St. Albert, Alberta) made 27 saves and earned his second win of
the
season.  On Sunday, Nov. 30, the Friars skated to a 4-4 tie with
Princeton
University in Princeton, N.J.  After trailing 4-1 in the third period,
PC
scored three consecutive goals to force the tie.  Sheppard netted PC's
final goal with six seconds remaining in regulation.  Pisani, Lake and
Cameron also scored for the Friars.  Ballard made 23 stops for the
Friars.
 
FRIARS REMAIN UDEFEATED IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION... The Providence
College
Friars improved their non-conference record to 5-0-1 last week.  On Nov.
28, PC defeated Yale, 5-2, at Schneider Arena.  On Nov. 30, the Friars
earned a 4-4 tie with Princeton at Princeton, N.J.  This season the
Friars
are 2-0-1 versus ECAC teams, 2-0-0 versus WCHA teams and 1-0-0 against
independents.
 
BALLARD EARNS HOCKEY EAST GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER...
Freshman
goaltender Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) was named Heaton/HOCKEY
EAST Goaltender of the Month for November.  Ballard earned the honor
after
recording a 5-1-1 mark, a 2.83 goals against average and a .910 save
percentage in seven games in November.  Ballard also has earned two
HOCKEY
EAST Rookie of the Week honors this season (Nov. 10 and 17).  On Nov. 8,
Ballard recorded 24 saves and his first career shutout in only his
second
start as the Friars defeated Minnesota-Duluth, 3-0. He has posted a
6-1-1
mark, a 2.96 goals against average and a .907 save percentage this
season.
 
MR. CLUTCH... Sophomore Doug Sheppard (Georgetown, Ontario) scored his
sixth goal of the season with six seconds remaining in the game to give
PC
a 4-4 tie with Princeton on Nov. 30 at Princeton, N.J.  On Oct. 25,
Sheppard scored at 2:46 of overtime to give the Friars a 5-4 win against
Union at Schneider Arena.  In 12 games this season, Sheppard has
registered
seven points (six goals, one assist).
 
OMICIOLI LEADS OFFENSE... Junior center Mike Omicioli (W. Warwick, R.I.)
registered six points (one goal, five assists) in three games last week
for
the Friars.  In PC's 3-2 loss to Northeastern on Nov. 25 at Boston,
Mass.,
Omicioli netted his sixth goal of the season.  On Friday, Nov. 28, he
registered three assists in PC's 5-2 win over ECAC foe Yale at Schneider
Arena.  On Sunday, Nov. 30, Omicioli recorded his second multiple-point
game of the week as he added two assists in the Friars' 4-4 tie with
Princeton at Princeton, N.J.  For Omicioli, his two assists against
Princeton was the 16th multiple-point game of his career.  Omicioli has
registered one or more points in each of the last seven games,
including a
career high four assists against UMass-Lowell on Nov. 16.  The W.
Warwick,
R.I. native leads the team in scoring (22 points) and assists (16).  In
73
career games, he has notched 73 points (26 goals, 47 assists).
 
PISANI LEADS TEAM IN GOALS... Sophomore left wing Fernando Pisani
(Edmonton, Alberta) recorded one goal and one assist in PC's 4-4 tie
with
Princeton on Nov. 30 at Princeton, N.J.  For Pisani it marked the 11th
multiple-point contest of his career and the sixth this season.  On Nov.
28, Pisani registered two goals and one assist in PC's 5-2 win against
Yale.  Pisani has notched one more points in each of the last seven
games.
He leads the team in goals (eight) and is second in scoring (17 points)
and
assists (nine).  A 1996 eighth-round draft pick of the Edmonton, Oilers,
Pisani has recorded 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists) in 47 career games.
 
RED LINE SCORES... PC's first line of Fernando Pisani (eight goals, nine
assists), Mike Omicioli (six goals, 16 assists) and Jon Cameron (seven
goals, six assists) have produced 52 of the team's 124 points (42
percent)
this season.  In PC's 4-4 tie with Princeton on Nov. 30, the first line
registered five of the team's nine points.
 
UPCOMING GAMES... Providence will host Maine for two games at Schneider
Arena on Dec. 5-6.  Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
 
THE PROVIDENCE-MAINE SERIES... Friday's game will be the 62nd meeting
between the two schools.  Maine leads the all-time series 36-24-1.  The
two
teams first met on Jan. 5, 1980 with Providence defeating Maine, 4-3, at
Alfond Arena.  PC's last win against the Black Bears was a 3-2 victory
in
the HOCKEY EAST Finals at the FleetCenter on March 15, 1996.  The
Friars'
last loss to Maine was a 6-3 defeat on Nov. 1, 1997.
 
AT SCHNEIDER ARENA... PC has posted a 12-12-0 mark against the Black
Bears
at Schneider Arena.  In the Friars' last game against Maine at Schneider
Arena, Maine defeated the Friars, 5-4, on Jan. 3, 1997.  The Friars'
last
win against Maine at Schneider Arena was a 3-1 victory on Nov. 10, 1995.
