>The college hockey selection show for the NCAA tourney is listed to be
>shown at 9:00 pm Sunday, March 17 on ESPNEWS, which is cable channel 123
>(digital cable only) in the Bangor area. The late time is due to the
>CCHA final which is late afternoon on Sunday. This information is from
>the NCAA website (www.ncaachampionships.com). It's interesting to note
>that the official NCAA website is www.ncaa.org however, once you want
>information about championships $$$$$$$ gets involved and the site
>becomes a dot-com!

Thanks for the NCAA Selection Show info, Rick!

I wouldn't read anything into .whatever

In this case, much like U Maine has with GoBlackBears.com, NCAA has has
hired a marketing firm to produce the championships pages.

It could have been a .org and probably should have been.

If you take a look at the current http://www.ncaa.org/ home page, you'll
see a really dumbed down, probably temporary page pointing to three
areas of NCAA-dom. One is .org, one is .com and the other is .net ...
go figure. The domain naming process doesn't restrict the NCAA (or
Maine) from using ".com" or ".net", even though they don't really apply
to "standard" use: ".com" as a company site, ".net" as an ISP site and
".org" as a kind of catch-all "organization".

<speculation on>
Probably some marketing person did a study and found ".com" to be more
recognizable than ".org" and so marketing types tend to use ".com".
<speculation off>

cheers, wayne
