PC Women's Hockey Earns Shutout against Maine, 2-0
 
        ORONO, Maine. --  Providence tallied two second period goals and Sara
DeCosta made 17 saves to earn the shutout as the Friars defeated Maine,
2-0, in women's ECAC hockey action on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Maine's Alfond
Arena.
        Tina Schairer wristed in a shot from five in front of the net to give
the
Friars a 1-0 lead and tally what proved to be the game-winning goal at
9:48
of the second period.  Jackie Tamsin added PC's second goal of the night
when she fired in a shot from the left faceoff circle at the 13:16 mark
of
the second.
        DeCosta earned her second shutout of the season and the fourth of her
career.
        With the win, Providence raised its record to 9-3-2 overall and 8-3-2
in
ECAC action, while Maine fell to 6-9 overall and 1-9 in league play.
        Providence College will return to action against the University of
Toronto
on Jan. 15 at 8:00 p.m. in Lake Placid, N.Y.
