Maybe because Walsh (Maine) was 2-0 on the weekend and Gionta was only
1-1.
 
Certainly Gionta was huge last Friday, but the league probably felt
that since Walsh played a key role in both games for Maine (that were
both wins) he was more deserving.
 
I don't know what criteria the USCHO PoTW is based on, but clearly
whoever decided that felt that the fact Gionta was on the losing end
did not detract from his performance.
