HUSKIES DROP 8-0 DECISION AT #3 NORTH DAKOTA

GRAND FORKS, N. DAK. -- Third-ranked North Dakota used a five-goal
second period on the way to an 8-0 Western Collegiate Hockey
Association victory over Michigan Tech Friday night at the Ralph
Engelstad Arena.

The Fighting Sioux got an early gift at 1:08 as Justin Brown lost the
puck right in front of his net and the Sioux's Rory McMahon beat Cam
Ellsworth between the legs for what proved to be the game-winning
goal. UND made it 2-0 on the power play at 9:46 thanks to a bit of
luck. Andy Schneider's shot from the left point caromed off a Tech
player out in front and then off Ellsworth's skate for a 2-0 lead.

All heck broke loose in a 4:14 span midway through the middle stanza
as UND scored five times, including three goals in a :51 period. The
Sioux got goals from Zach Parise on the power play at 8:43, Chris
Leinweber at 10:52, Brandon Bochenski at 12:06, Parise at 12:27, and
Quinn Fylling at 12:57. Ellsworth was pulled after the seventh goal
and had 17 total stops.

"That was the game," said Tech Head Coach Mike Sertich. "I thought we
were in the game and then bang, we're right out of the game."

North Dakota finished the scoring at 10:04 of the third as James
Massen beat Rick Cazares.

UND netminder Josh Siembida had 16 saves in the win. Cazares finished
with seven stops in the final 27:03 and allowed one goal.

Tech did have some solid scoring chances in the game, and while its
power play didn't score, the Huskies had good control in the zone and
generated chances.

The two teams finish the series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. (CST) in
Grand Forks.
