I think this is a great idea.  In Portland (OR), several fans bring the
flags of Slovakia to honor one of our European players, and the player's
response was, "you know, from everything I've always heard about Americans,
I wasn't even sure you knew there was a Europe, let alone a Slovkia."
 
I'm sure it would greatly offend the types who want the US anthem to be
switched to Randy Newman's "Let's Drop the Bomb, and See What Happens," and
that is an additional reason to do it.

Non-hockey p.s.  The California anthem is, of course, the DK's "Kalifornia
Uber Alles".
 
Hockey p.p.s.  The Cornell band and crowd get around the "Marsh peg up
my..." road attitude of ignoring their Canadian players by singing "Oh
Canada" after the opening faceoff.  Every road crowd we have done this in
front of has given it a nice ovation.
