To: Maine Librarians, Support Staff, Trustees & Friends

From: Joint Library Legislative Committee

Subject: New Century Bond

WE NEED YOUR HELP RIGHT NOW! The Appropriations and Financial Affairs
Committee of the Maine Legislature will be finalizing their work on the
Governor's bond package THIS WEEKEND. The Governor has proposed a state
appropriation of $5 million for the New Century Program. To make sure
that this stays in his bond package, key legislators MUST hear that
their constituents SUPPORT this appropriation.

A recent survey of Maine libraries revealed that there is a need for
over $27 million in construction and renovation projects. Your input is
CRITICAL at this time because the bond package will be a compromise
between Republicans and Democrats during the weekend.

Please CALL or EMAIL members of the Legislature's Appropriations
Committee and the Senate and House leadership and tell them to support
the Governor's request for New Century funding of $5 million.

On behalf of the Joint Library Legislation Committee, thank you for your
efforts in getting our message out to legislators,
