JACKSON, HOWARD RECEIVE HOCKEY EAST HONORS

ORONO, Maine– Todd Jackson (Cortland, N.Y.) and Jimmy Howard
(Ogdensburg, N.Y.) both received Hockey East honors on Monday for their
performance last weekend in the Maverick Stampede in Omaha, Neb.
Jackson was named CCM Co-Hockey East Player of the Week, while Howard
earned Defensive Player of the Week Honors. The Black Bears shutout
two-time defending national champion and top-ranked Minnesota 4-0 on
Friday and followed that with a 6-2 win over Wisconsin in the
championship game.

Jackson scored two goals in each game for the Black Bears to finish
with four goals on the weekend. He notched two short-handed goals, and
a power play tally en route to Maverick Stampede Most Valuable Player
Honors. He leads the country in short-handed goals and is tied for the
national lead in goals scored with four.

Howard recorded his fourth career shutout with a 4-0 blanking of
defending NCAA champion and top-ranked Minnesota. He stopped all 25
shots that he faced in the game. It is the first time in 92 games that
Minnesota has been shutout. Howard was named to the Maverick Stampede
All-Tournament team.

Michel Léveillé (Lévis, Quebec) was named to the Hockey East Honor
Roll. Léveillé assisted on four of UMaine’s 10 goals this weekend,
including dishing out three assists in 6-2 win over Wisconsin in the
Maverick Stampede title game.

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they host the
U.S. National Development Team in the Mid-Maine Communications Black
Bear Classic at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena. The U.S. National Development
Team is the program that produced UMaine standouts Jackson, Howard and
Greg Moore (Lisbon, Maine). Sacred Heart will face Holy Cross in the
first game of the tournament slated to begin at 4 p.m.

A limited number of season tickets for men’s ice hockey are still
available, and tickets are available for this weekend’s Mid-Maine
Communications Black Bear Classic as well. Fans can purchase tickets by
calling 581-BEAR or 1-800-756-TEAM.
