UMAINE MEN'S HOCKEY RECEIVES COMMITMENTS

ORONO, Maine --University of Maine men's ice hockey coach Tim Whitehead
announced today that his program has received National Letters of Intent
(NLI's) from Luchiano Aquino (Mississauga, Ontario) and Keith Johnson
(Windsor, Conn.). Both have signed NLI's to attend the University of Maine
and will join the Black Bear men's ice hockey team in the fall of 2003.

Aquino is a 5-10, 175 pound forward who is currently playing with the
Wexford Raiders of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. In 21 games
this season, he is leading the team in scoring with 16 goals and 25 assists
for 41 points. Wexford is currently ranked first in the South Conference
with a record of 17-5-1. His 41 points are tied for ninth in the conference
in scoring. Aquino was named to the Ontario Under-17 Team that played at the
2002 World Championships in Selkirk, Manitoba last year.

"Luchiano Aquino is an exciting forward with game-breaking speed who can
score goals," said head coach Tim Whitehead. "He is a tough competitor."

Keith Johnson is a 6-0, 185 pound forward who is currently playing with the
New England Junior Coyotes of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. He is third
on the team in scoring with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in
13 games. He has notched four power play goals and one game-winner on the
season. The Coyotes are ranked seventh in the conference with a record of
5-5-2-1. Johnson has been named to the EJHL All-Star team and will compete
Dec. 2-4 at the U.S. Top Prospects Tournament in Plymouth, Mich.

"Keith is a fierce competitor," said Whitehead. "He can make plays in
traffic and has a great sense of the game."

The pair joins Brent Shepheard who will also join the Black Bears in the
fall of 2003.

The admission of all student-athletes is contingent on following NCAA rules,
including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
