UMAINE MEN'S ICE HOCKEY BANQUET SET FOR MAY 17

A season to be proud of, a season to remember and a season to celebrate
will be the theme of the University of Maine men's ice hockey banquet which
will be held on Friday, May 17 at Jeff's Catering in Brewer, Maine. Dan
Hannigan, "the voice of UMaine hockey," will once again serve as the master
of ceremonies. A silent auction will take place during the social hour
which begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner and awards
presentation. There will be a live auction for the road jerseys of the four
seniors: Niko Dimitrakos, Peter Metcalf, Mike Morrison and Matt Yeats.

The banquet is open to the public. Registration forms are available at the
UMaine Hockey Office or by calling (207) 581-1106. The cost of the banquet
is $25.00 per person and must accompany the registration. People are
encouraged to register by May 10, as seating is limited. Donations to
defray the cost of the meals for the team or to benefit the silent auction
are encouraged. Additional contributions to support the hockey team and or
the Shawn Walsh Endowment should be marked specifically for this purpose
and be made payable to the University of Maine. Mail
registrations/contributions to Betty Donovan, President, Friends of Maine
Hockey, Alfond Arena, Orono, Maine 04469. For more information about the
banquet contact Friends group member Susan McPike at (207) 862-4048.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit the UMaine Hockey Program.

Among the awards which will be presented are: Outstanding Defensive Player,
Ocean Properties Never Give-Up Award, Most Honored Opponent, Stein Award,
Harold Alfond Most Valuable Player Award, Harold Westerman Coaches' Award,
Richard Britt Most Inspirational Player, Howard Neville Rookie of the Year,
Dale Lick Academic Achievement Award, Madeline Bacon Spirit Award, Friends
of Maine Hockey Volunteer of the Year and the Coca Cola Three Star Award.

Maine finished the season with a record of 26-11-7 and fell in the National
Championship in overtime to Minnesota. Head Coach Tim Whitehead was named
the Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year, and Niko Dimitrakos and
Peter Metcalf were named All-Americans. The banquet is a great way to
congratulate the team on a great season and say goodbye to the four seniors.
