Now that the conference tournaments are history, it's time to announce the
winners of the Pick the Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #2,
which scores all rounds the same, the contest winner is...
Joe LaCour
with a total of 34 points, edging out Robin Lock, Greg Berge, Dan Zeuske, and
Rollie Jacques, who were all tied for second a point behind.
As for the individual conference winners, all the races came down to tie-
breakers. In the ECAC, Iyer Venkatesan, Dan Zeuske, and Troy D. Mills all tied
for first with 9 points each. Troy lost out on the first tiebreaker (final
score), and the second tiebreaker (total goals in the tournament) gave Iyer the
top spot.
Hockey East saw Chris Craig, Greg Berge, and me (!) share the top spot at 7
points each, with Chris ultimately winning by predicting the final score right
on the nose.
In the CCHA, Brian Wallace and Jennifer L. Iwen had 8 points each to tie for
first, and Brian won the final-score tiebreaker.
Joe LaCour and Matt Sullivan tied in the WCHA (as they did in Contest #1) with
10 points each, and the first tiebreaker went Joe's way.
The MAAC saw a five-way tie for first among Brian Hvinden, Adam Bryant, Andrew
Weise, Dave Belfiori, and Dan Zeuske. Dave and Dan dropped out after the first
tiebreaker, and Brian's total-goal prediction was the closest among the
remaining three to give him the title.
>From last week's update, Christine Quinn won the CHA with 5 points, winning
both tiebreakers.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners, and
thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you picked
the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 2-0) to be 3-1, you would get
two points; if you picked 4-3, you would get five points; and if you picked
2-1, you would get one point. Obviously, the lower point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of goals
scored in the tournament and the actual number. Again, the lower the point
total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 2-0, and the total number of
goals scored in the tournament was 91.
For Hockey East, the championship game score was 2-1.
For the CCHA, the championship game score was 6-0.
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 6-4.
For the MAAC, the championship game score was 6-1, and the total number of
goals scored in the tournament was 59.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher Seed"
picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each game had
been picked to win.

"Anyway, after I've made my James Joyce faux pas, he invariably gives me an
indulgent chuckle: 'Heh-heh-heh-heh, ohhh my -- James Joyce didn't write
_Trees_. _Trees_ was written by Joyce Kilmer.' Of course, then I ask 'who
is SHE?' and I destroy myself completely."
