With the conference tournaments fading into memory, it's time to announce the
winners of the Pick the Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #1, in
which the later rounds were scored heavier than the earlier ones, the overall
contest winner is...
Joe LaCour
who takes the top spot with a total of 209 points, five ahead of runner-up
Robin Lock. For his sheer prognosticating ability, keen college hockey acumen,
and amazing grasp of the vagaries of tournament play (translation: lucky
bastard), Joe wins the honor of being hated by the rest of us.
As for the individual conference winners...
Troy D. Mills won a close race in the ECAC with 55 points.
In Hockey East, Greg Berge picked every game and series correctly to finish
with a perfect score of 48. Showoff.
Jennifer L. Iwen was one of only two people to predict Nebraska-Omaha's run to
the CCHA championship game, and as a result she got the top spot in the CCHA
with 50 points.
The WCHA came down to a tie between Joe LaCour and Matt Sullivan, both with 58
points. Joe won the first tiebreaker (final score prediction), coming four
points closer to the final score than Matt did.
Connecticut's championship in the MAAC really shook things up. Dave Belfiori
finished first with 33 points, largely because he was one of only two people to
pick the Huskies to win it all.
>From last week's update, Christine Quinn won the CHA with 40 points, winning
both tiebreakers.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners, and
thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you picked
the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 2-0) to be 3-1, you would get
two points; if you picked 4-3, you would get five points; and if you picked
2-1, you would get one point. Obviously, the lower point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of goals
scored in the tournament and the actual number. Again, the lower the point
total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 6-4.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher Seed"
picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each game had
been picked to win.

"Anyway, after I've made my James Joyce faux pas, he invariably gives me an
indulgent chuckle: 'Heh-heh-heh-heh, ohhh my -- James Joyce didn't write
_Trees_. _Trees_ was written by Joyce Kilmer.' Of course, then I ask 'who
is SHE?' and I destroy myself completely."
