QU's Athletic director Mcdonald said during the NCAA quarter finals out
in Worcester (I heard this during the Michigan and UNH games on the
internet) that once the NCAA hockey hits a certain number of teams that the
NCAA tourney would be expaned from 12-16. I still believe that both the MAAC
and the IHA are going to have to make some serious strides before we start
handing out auto bids. Mainly since the schools in these conferences are
not real established programs. This also brings up the Debate. Do we not
give an at large bid to a team that deserves to be in the NCAA tourney then
turn around and give a A QU or a Huntsville team that is probably not going
to win its first round game and is going to get creamed. Then leaving out a
team possibly like a BC or a DU or a team like Ohio State. This is really a
legitimate issue. This year luckily the right decision were made in the NCAA
selection.
