The University of Maine has retired two numbers for hockey.. #8 for
1992 Hobey Baker award winner Scott Pellerin and #19 for Jim
Montgomery who was the first Eastern hockey player to amass 300+
points in a career.
Many people in Maine wonder why Paul Kariya's number 9 has not been
retired, but it is UMaine's policy to only retire numbers of those
student-athletes who finish their degree. Since Paul Kariya didn't
even complete two years of college, he isn't "eligible".
