THREE STARS
1) Kevin Murphy, CU
2) Dave Seitz, CU
3) Marko Tuomainen, CU and J-F Houle, CU
COMMENTS
Although Houle didn't have any points, he did an especially
great job (even for him) with forechecking and being a general
pest. Murphy and Seitz did it on both ends of the ice with 4
points each and solid forechecking. I think the real key to the
game was in the neutral zone. Clarkson's forecheckers did an
excellent job against SLU rushers either slowing them up or
totally knocking the puck away from them. This clearly frustrated
the Saints offense and led to several excellent chances for
the Golden Knights.
SLU goalie Bracco could very easily have
been the third star had he not let in a pair of soft goals. He
was really only flat out beaten on one goal (with the other being
a fluke goal that went in off a SLU defender). He made some great
saves near the end preventing double digits for Clarkson.
Clarkson's defense did not play that well, though. 2 of the 4
goals (the others were a soft goal and a PPG) were direct results
of offensive mistakes and there were several other flat out giveaways
in the defensive zone. Defender Josh Bartell seemed to have some
problems. Although they did play well at times and Dan Murphy did not
have to face that many shots because of the great forechecking and
neutral zone play.
