WOMEN'S HOCKEY DOWNS HUSKIES IN OVERTIME

BOSTON, MA -The Maine women's hockey team came away with perhaps the biggest
win in team history, as Karen Droog scored with 15 seconds left in overtime
to knock off the #2 ranked Northeastern Huskies 4-3 on Friday afternoon. It
was Maine's sixth straight victory, and its first in three tries against
Northeastern this season.

With the clock running out in overtime, Droog (Listowel, ONT) found herself
alone at the red line. After a scramble, the puck came out to the sophomore
forward who skated in alone on NU goalie Marisa Hourihan and went top-shelf
stick side to beat the NU goaltender. The puck banged off the post and into
the net for the winning score at 4:45 of overtime. It was Droog's second
goal of the game.

Northeastern drops to 23-4-0, 13-3-0 in ECAC Eastern while Maine improves to
14-12-2, 6-9-2 in ECAC Eastern.

The Black Bears got on the board first when Christine Lane (Kanata, ONT)
knocked in her own rebound at 9:29 of the opening period for her first goal
of the season. It was the first goal Hourihan had allowed all season in over
245 minutes of action. The Huskies tied the game on the power-play just 34
seconds later when Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, WA) scored her 28th goal of
the year off assists from Erica Archambeau (Pelkie, MI) and Kim Greene
(Everett, MA). NU took the lead 2-1 only 15 seconds later when Pamela Pachal
(Saltcoats, SASK) scored off her a rebound of a Brooke White (Berkeley, CA)
shot at 10:18. Maine evened the score later in the first period when Meagan
Aarts (Watford, ONT) scored her 21st goal of the season on the power-play.

The Black Bears took the 3-2 lead at 16:10 of the second. The puck went into
the Northeastern end but icing was waived off. Aarts got to the loose puck
and fed Droog in front whose wrist shot beat Hourihan.

Maine remained ahead 3-2 until 16:30 of the third period. On the power-play,
Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT) finished off a scramble in front of the
Black Bear net when she banged in her ninth of the season, tying the score
and forcing overtime.

For the game, Northeastern outshot Maine 40-37, but the Black Bears outshot
the Huskies 6-1 in overtime. Maine goalie Dan Froats (Moose Jaw, SASK) made
37 saves while Hourihan stopped a season-high 33.

It is the first time all season the Huskies have lost back-to-back games. NU
was defeated on Tuesday night 4-3 by Harvard in overtime.
