Women's Hockey Blanks Wayne State, 6-0

ORONO, Maine -- The Maine women's ice hockey team came away with a 6-0
shutout over non-conference opponent Wayne State Friday afternoon at the
Alfond Arena in Orono. Maine came into the contest 5-7-1, having lost their
last two to nationally ranked Dartmouth College, while Wayne St. came in
also having dropped their last two with a record of 3-10-2.

Maine got on the board quickly, as Andrea Steranko snuck one past Warrior
goalie Anna VanderMarliere at 2:58 of the first period from Tracy Caridade
and Cheryl White. Steranko followed that up five minutes later with the
second of what would be a hat trick for her on the day and 5 goals for the
season.

Karen Droog added to the Black Bear lead in the second when she stuffed home
a Meagan Aarts rebound for a 3-0 Maine lead, and the Black Bears continued
control the game.

In the third period, Droog added her second of the game and 10th on the
season, while Jarin Sjogren added a power play goal, and Steranko completed
her hat trick with 55 seconds remaining. Cheryl White, Tristan Desmet, and
Meagan Aarts had two assists each for the Black Bears.

Anna VanderMarliere made 31 saves on 37 Maine shots in the loss as her
record dropped to 1-6-2. Lara Smart stopped all 20 shots she faced for her
second shutout of the season. Her record improves to 2-1-0. Maine is now
6-7-1 on the season, while Wayne St. falls to 3-11-2 .
