I think the job of administrator to a mailing list is a thankless job....it's
a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't kind of job...
 
As a hockey parent I have  probably learned more about what's happening with
the Bears (my Bear in particular) from this list than any other source. Since
my Bear is usually out somewhere (training) or asleep, I have found (being so
far away and unable to come to games) that I have received much of the news
both good and bad from the list.
 
I've never felt anything was ever presented at the cost of privacy and
accusing the list of tabloidism or assisting the opposition are all
incendiary comments in  my opinion. I just want to hear the news and not a
siphoned variety. After all, we've just been informed we won't be censored.
Check out any hockey publication.....injuries pack the pages....with
headlines of "happy and healthy"....or  "bad breaks". It's part of the game
on any level.
 
Since it was my son's name (among others) mentioned in regard to injuries I
thought you might like to hear our opinions...if I can catch him in.
Injury reports do become public information and they are part and parcel of
what it means to be the parent of a player and that's not always limelight
and kudos, sometimes it's just waiting to find out if he even played!
 
I caught Jason this afternoon between a nap and leaving for the game. Over
the phone he told me how he felt about injuries being stated on the list.
This is what he said. "I'm getting ready for the game tonight, what do you
want? Who cares! It's part of being on a team. Got to go."
 
As a hockey parent when I hear something I don't want to hear sometimes I'm
ready to bite the hand that feeds it to me! Not one of us wants to hear the
bad news. Injuries comprise a hefty portion of this. And what becomes common
public knowlege, because every one wants to know about those Bears is
something that goes beyond the private arena and into a vast public
consumption. That's hockey.
How we all choose to deal with this state of being (hockey parenting) will be
varied and personal. But, once your son becomes part of a team he becomes
part of everything that that implies. Jason has that down!
