Michigan wins record ninth NCAA championship

(AP) - College hockey's most successful team has claimed another
title. Fifty years after winning the first NCAA championship,
Michigan won its ninth on Saturday night in Boston when freshman
Josh Langfeld scored 17:51 into overtime to beat Boston College
3-2 in the NCAA finals. Boston College had a record crowd behind
it, but Michigan had the experience. The Wolverines (32-11-1) had
been to the last four Final Fours and won the title in 1996 --
also in overtime. Michigan senior Marty Turco, who stopped 28
shots, finished as the NCAA tournament's winningest goalie and
was named this year's oustanding player. Mark Kosick scored both
goals in regulation for Michigan, the second to tie the game with
6:12 left and send it into overtime. Scott Clemmensen stopped 32
shots and Mike Lephart and Kevin Caulfield scored for Boston
College (27-9-5), which lost for the first time in 15 games.
