There was no banquet for the Gophers this year, as the players
decided that they did not want one.

Here are the awards as announced on the GopherSports website:

For the second consecutive season, Erik Westrum was named the
John Mariucci Most Valuable Player Award winner for the Golden
Gopher men’s hockey team. Westrum led the team in scoring
with 61 points and finished his career in a tie for 13th place
all-time in scoring with 168. He is the sixth player in the 45-year
history of the award to win it more than once.

In addition to the presentation of season awards, captains for the
2001-02 team were announced. Co-captains for next season
will be seniors-to-be John Pohl and Jordan Leopold. The assistant
captain will be sophomore-to-be Grant Potulny. Despite suffering
through an injury-plagued season, Pohl finished third on the team
in scoring and will serve as captain for the second consecutive season.
Leopold was Minnesota’s first All-American and Hobey Baker
Award finalist in four years. He tied for the nation’s lead in
defenseman scoring. Potulny was a WCHA All-Rookie selection
and led the nation with 16 power-play goals.
