Interesting that you mention consistancy and the Laker hockey teams that
won the national title and made it to the finals or quarterfinals in NCAA
tourney.  If I recall, many of those seasons we Laker hockey fans would
bemoan how poorly the Lakers were playing during October, November,
December and the first part of January:  generally the first 4 months of
the season.  I don't have the statistics handy but it seemed as if Jeff
Jackson did the same thing and the hockey team caught fire from
mid-January on.  They would storm into the CCHA tournament and finish in
the final game and usually win it.  Then on to the NCAA tourney and do
very well there.  It happened too often to be a coincidence and I think
the same thought process occured with Jackson as occurs with BU's coach.
They tinker with the lines, defensive systems, goalies, etc. and as long
as they are near the middle to upper poart of the standings, they just
don't worry about it until crunch time.
