Jonathan,
As a philologist, I find the following sentence far more disorienting than
Loving's "his forte, like Theodore Dreiser...." :

> finally Pound's life will have become a part of language...
Loving simply falls into a colloquial idiom; 99 people out of a hundred
would understand what he meant without ambiguity. Few, I think, would know
what you had in mind.
