These are all good ideas, but what is to say that they won't compromise
us too far to the negative on the other end of the ice?

The biggest problem with trying to play a shootout type of game is
making sure that your guys can score more goals. At this point I don't
see us being able to win that way any more consistently than the
defensive style we are currently playing.

I'd rather play tight defense and work harder on offense to fight
through checks and get to the front of the net and create the second
chance and garbage goals.

I think a good case can be made that a tough defensive team fares
better in the playoffs than a shootout team. How many Maine teams from
the late 80s and early 90s (pre 1993) won a ton of games 7-5 and how
many titles did they win? How many title games?

The 1993 team was special and won BOTH ways.

Now granted college hockey has changed some, but Maine teams in 1995,
1999, 2000, 2002 and 2004 that all achieved high levels of success were
not built with lots of blue chip (BC style) forwards, but were good
players/teams that worked hard and earned everything they got. That is
what Maine has become the last 10 years -- a team that beats you
because it works harder and has its legs at the end because they run
four lines at you all game.
