The BDN says the first practice will be midnight tonight--i.e., 12:01 a.m.

I think the change is at least understandable, if not preferable. Midnight
madness used to be an event that a lot of people looked forward to, and the
enthusiasm was conveyed down to the ice. In recent years, attendance and
enthusiasm has waned, despite a variety of efforts to attract more students,
generate more noise, etc. Midnight madness can be a real boost to the program
is the enthusiasm is there; if it isn't, it can be a real drag.
