*** USA Hockey names 9 NHL players for U.S. team
(AP) - Nine NHL players were selected Thursday for the U.S. national
team to play in next month's world championships. The Anaheim Mighty
Ducks, New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes each placed two
players on the squad picked by USA Hockey. Matt Cullen and Ted Drury
of the Mighty Ducks will join Tom Chorske and Bryan Smolinski of the
Islanders and Bates Battaglia and Adam Burt of the Hurricanes. Also
picked were Darby Hendrickson of the Toronto Maple Leafs, ERIC
WEINRICH of the Chicago Blackhawks and GARTH SNOW of the Vancouver
Canucks. Officials said the remainder of the team will be made up of
players from minor hockey leagues, European professional leagues and
U.S. college teams. The world championships will be played in
Switzerland, May 1-17.
