Maine Hands Big Red Women's Hockey 3-0 Loss To Sweep Two-Game Set

ITHACA, N.Y.-- Junior forward Cindy Biron tallied a power play goal
5:48 seconds into the game and the Black Bears never looked back as
Maine defeated Cornell 3-0 in the second of two weekend games at Lynah
Rink Sunday afternoon. Maine moves to 4-3-1 on their season with the
win while Cornell drops to 0-4.

Freshman Andrea Steranko and junior Jarin Sjogren assisted on Biron's
goal, which was scored thirty seconds into Maine's first power play
opportunity of the game.

The Black Bears added an even-strength goal ten minutes later in the
first when sophomore Emily Stevens stole the puck after Cornell was
unable to clear it out of its zone and ripped a slapper past Big Red
goaltender Sanya Sandahl.

Cornell put pressure on in the final two periods, creating several
scoring opportunities, but was unable to capitalize on its chances
against Black Bear goalie Dawn Froats.

Maine added its third goal in the game's final minutes when Meagan
Aarts found Tristan Desmet in the center of the Cornell zone, giving
Desmet an open shot that found the top of the net. Laura Maddin added
an assist on the score.

Froats stopped 22 Cornell shots to earn the shutout. Sandahl picked up
20 saves in the losing effort.

The Big Red returns to action next weekend when it hosts Findlay for a
pair of 2 p.m. contests on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18.
