St. Cloud State Defeats Russia Select Team in Exhibition Game

St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University men's hockey withstood a four
goal outburst in the third period by the Russia Select team to gain a 5-4
exhibition game victory on Dec. 18, in St. Cloud.

SCSU freshman defenseman Jeff Finger posted the game winner with assists
from Mark Hartigan and Matt Hendricks with 14:56 of the third period to lift
the #7/8 Huskies to the win.

SCSU scored first in the game as junior forward Tyler Arnason scored a
shorthanded goal at 14:10 of the first period with an assist from senior
center Brandon Sampair.  Hartigan added a power play goal at 18:59 of the
first period with assists from Duvie Westcott and Keith Anderson.

SCSU extended its lead to 3-0 when sophomore center Jon Cullen scored with
another assist from Westcott..

The Russia Select squad, which is in the midst of a five-game WCHA/USA tour,
awoke in the third period with a short handed goal by Iouri Troubachtev at
1:48.  Valerie Pokrovski scored at 3:00 before Alexandre Chinkar posted the
team's third goal at 6:30 of the third.  SCSU took a one goal lead when Andy
Lundbohm scored at 8:30 before Finger iced the game.  Konstantin Bogdanovski
rounded out the scoring with a goal at 19:26.

SCSU posted 28 shots in the game, while Russia Select had 25 (24 of those
shots coming in the second and third periods).  Jake Moreland was the goalie
of record for SCSU with 23 saves while Andrei Teyernoskoutov had 23 saves
for the Russia Select Team.

The Russia Select squad will complete its USA tour with a game at MSU,
Mankato on Dec. 19.  The team is 2-2 on its USA tour.

SCSU (13-4-1, 8-4-0 WCHA) will continue its regular season on Jan. 5-6, with
a trip to WCHA foe Minnesota-Duluth.
