While it looks as though Friday the thirteenth gave a lot of Division I
teams fits (Clarkson, Merrimack -- I know Maine's good, but 14-1????, etc),
the Penn State Icers entered the Atlantic Collegiate Hockey League in grand
style, pummeling the West Chester (PA) Golden Rams 10-0 at the Penn State Ice
Pavilion. West Chester (wearing purple & gold - ugh! :^) couldn't get it
together, tallying only about 15 shots on goal the entire game (my estimate -
they didn't announce the shot totals; I think PSU had about 50).
On Saturday afternoon, the Icers continued their winning ways, defeating
the previously undefeated Delaware Blue Hens 8-3. This one was more
interesting, as the Hens, with help from the officiating, closed to 4-3 in the
second, but the Icers scored four unanswered goals to round out the scoring.
The Icers are now 7-0-0 (2-0-0=4 ACHL), while WCU falls to 2-3-0 (0-2-0=0)
and Delaware moves to 5-1-0 (1-1-0=2). The Icers are away next weekend,
facing Maryland on Friday, and Navy on Saturday. More details to follow
(that's right, I actually have box scores!)
