SCSU Men's Hockey Release ­ 2/12/01
Upcoming Games:

UPCOMING GAMES:  The #7 St. Cloud State University (22-7-1, 15-7-0 WCHA)
will travel to Wisconsin (15-11-4, 10-8-4 WCHA) on Feb. 16 and Feb. 17.
Game time at the Kohl Center (cap. 15,237) is slated for 7:05 p.m. both
nights in Madison, Wis.  The Huskies were ranked #7 in the last USCHO and
USA TODAY/America Hockey Magazine polls, while Wisconsin was ranked #13/#15
in the polls.  In the all-important RPI rankings, SCSU was listed as 7th
with a rating of .5727 (as of Feb. 12).  Michigan State was first in the RPI
ranking at .6245.

THE RESULTS: On feb. 9, the Huskies charted a 2-0 win at Alaska-Anchorage.
Mark Haritgan score the first goal and game winner at :15 of the second with
an assist from Duvie Westcott and Brandon Sampair on the power play.
Hartigan attacked again at :58 of the second with a goal with assists from
Andy Lundbohm (his first college assist) and Joe Motzko.  Dean Weasler was
credited with his fourth career shutout as he posted 15 saves.  On the power
play, SCSU was 1-of-2, while UAA was 0-of-4...on Feb. 10, the Huskies gained
a 4-1 win at UAA.  Tyler Arnason started the ball rolling with his 18th goal
of the season at 6:37 of the second with assists from Sampair and Hartigan.
Hartigan then notched the game winner at 16:05 of the second with a
shorthanded goal with assists from Motzko and Colin Peters.  UAAıs Jesse
Unklesbay scored at 1:20 of the third on a power play goal before Chris
Purslow scored at 6:21 to ice the game.  Sampair completed the attack with
his 8th goal of the season at 14:56 of the game.  UAA managed to outshoot
the Huskies 27-25 but Weasler was stellar between the pipes with 26 saves.
On the power play, SCSU was 1-of-4 and UAA was 1-of-8.

HEAD COACH: SCSU coach Craig Dahl (Pacific Lutheran, 1976) in his 14th
season as head coach for the Huskies.  He is the only coach that SCSU has
had since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-88.  Dahl has a career
record of 251-241-38 at SCSU and a 20-year career coaching mark of
327-328-40.  Of note, Dahl won his 250th game at SCSU on Feb. 9, 2001 with a
2-0 win at Alaska-Anchorage...Dahl won his 300th career game on 2/19/00.  In
1997-98, Dahl was named the WCHA Coach of the Year.  He has won more games
than any SCSU hockey coach.  In 2000-01, Dahl will be assisted by Doc
DelCastillo (SCSU, 1992) in his third season and first year coach Brad
Willner (Lake Superior State, 1995).

ALL-TIME RECORD: The Huskies and Coach Dahl both own a 251-241-38 record
since the program went Division I in 1987-88.  This is the first season that
the Huskies have gone above .500 with their overall record since going
Division I...The Ferris State game on Oct. 13th was the 500th Division I
hockey game in the history of the program at SCSU.  The game was also Dahlıs
500th as a coach at SCSU.

HUSKY BITS:  SCSU is in the midst of a three-game win streak dating back to
a 7-5 win over CC on Feb. 3...SCSU allowed a season-low 15 shots on goal
during its 2-0 win over UAA on Feb. 9.  The three SOG allowed by SCSU during
that game also equals a season-low for one period...in that UAA game on Feb.
9, SCSU tied a season-low with only four penalties for eight minutes...Mark
Hartigan now leads the team with four game winning goals this season...SCSU
has a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Seawolves.  The last time SCSU
lost a game to UAA was a 5-3 setback in 1996-97...On Jan. 19, SCSU hit a
season-high and national high with four pp goals...SCSU was named the
USATODAY.com national team of the week on Jan. 18.  SCSU received its
highest national ranking since going Division I in 1987-88 with a #3/4
ranking in both the USCHO and USA TODAY/ American Hockey Magazine polls on
Jan. 22...SCSU has hit the 20-win mark for the fifth time since becoming a
Division I program in 1987-88.  The Huskies need two more wins to hit a
program high for most wins in a season.  The previous team-highs were 23
wins in 1999-00 (23-14-3) and 1996-97 (23-13-4).  As a Division III program,
SCSU collected a 25-10-1 record in 1986-87 under the leadership of coach
Herb Brooks.  SCSU also charted a 25-2 record in 1934-35...SCSUıs road has
been tough over the past weeks.  On Jan. 26-27, SCSU played at #3 North
Dakota and on Feb. 2-3, SCSU played #4 CC.  After a tough trip to UAA on
Feb. 9-10, the Huskies will play at #13 Wisconsin and complete the regular
season with games against #6 Minnesota.  In between on Feb. 23-24, SCSU will
host #12 Mankato.

A NEW TEAM RECORD:  The Huskies hit a new team record on Jan. 20 by winning
their ninth consecutive game on Jan. 20.  The previous best was seven
consecutive wins set last year from Jan. 14-Feb. 4.  SCSU set a team record
with a 10-game unbeaten streak last year that included two ties during that
stretch.

100-POINT CLUB MEMBERS:  Tyler Arnason and Brandon Sampair are both members
of the 100 point club. On Jan. 12, Arnason scored a goal and an assist,
while Sampair had a goal and two assists.  Aranson (51g/63a) and has 18g/16a
this season... Brandon Sampair (45g/69a).  He has 8g/27a this season.
Sampair and Arnason are the 24rd and 25th players in team history (all
Divisions) to reach the 100-point level in their careers...of note, Arnason
is the 7th player in SCSU history to score 50 or more goals in his career.
He ranks 8th in team records with 63 assists, while Sampair is 7th with 69
assists.  Arnason and Sampair are tied for 12th on the all-time scoring list
along with Herm Finnegan (1986-90).

DAHL GAINS 250th WIN: SCSU coach Craig Dahl gained his 250th career win at
SCSU with the Huskiesı 2-0 victory at UAA on Feb. 9. His 14 year record in
St. Cloud now stands at 251-241-38 and his overall mark is 327-328-40 in
20-years as a college coach.  Dahlıs first year at SCSU was 1987-88.

ON THE RADIO: Husky hockey can be heard on KNSI Radio 1450 AM during the
2000-01 season.  The broadcasts will also be available on the web at
www.1450knsi.com.  Don Lyons will call the play-by-play and former SCSU
All-American Dave Reichel will provide the color commentary for home
games selected games this season will also be broadcast live by KVSC FM
88.1...KNSI AM 1450 will also host the Craig Dahl Show each Monday at 5:05
p.m. during the season.  The show will feature Coach Dahl, SC Times writer
Kevin Allenspach and host Don Lyons.  The show is sponsored by Plaza Park
Bank/Investment Centers of America.

HUSKIES ON TV: A total of 18 Husky home games this season will be televised
live on St. Cloud's Charter Communications cable channel 65 this season.
Charter Communications are also slated to carry the games live on their
systems in Alexandria, Willmar and Little Falls. KSTC channel 45 (Charter
cable channel 17 in St. Cloud) out of the Twin Cities.   Veteran announcer
Wally Shaver will call the play-by-play along with color commentary from
Doug Johnson.  KSTC games slated for this season are Feb. 24 Mankato and
Match 3 Minnesota.

HUSKY AUTOGRAPH DEN:  SCSU fans can obtain autographs in the Husky Autograph
Den after each home game this season.  Players slated to appear in the
autograph den after the game on Feb. 23 are Brandon Sampair and Duvie
Westcott and on Feb. 24 are Jon Cullen and Brian Gaffaney.

HUSKIES READING FOR FUN:  Each year the St. Cloud Public Library and the
SCSU hockey teams combine to present the Husky Reading for Fun program.
This popular childrenıs reading program at the St. Cloud Public Library in
downtown St. Cloud, features SCSU players reading books on selected Saturday
mornings prior to SCSU home games.  The program continues on Feb. 24, and it
will feature Lee Brooks and Ryan LaMere.  For more information, please call
the Library at 251-7282.

ABOUT SCSU: The 1999-2000 season marked the 13th year that SCSU has been a
member of NCAA Division I hockey.  SCSU joined the Division I hockey ranks
in 1987-88 and became a member of the WCHA in 1990-91. That first year in
the league, SCSU finished fifth with a 12-16-4 league record and an 18-19-4
overall record. SCSU's highest league finish has been third place, a
standing that was reached in 1996-97 and again in 1999-2000...since going
Division I, SCSU owns a 251-241-38 overall record.

2000-01 TEAM CAPTAINS: The 2000-01 team captain is senior forward Brandon
Sampair (Mahtomedi).  Assistant captains are senior forward Keith Anderson
(Thief River Falls) and senior defenseman Ritchie Larson (Winnipeg, Mant.).

NOTES ABOUT UW:  The #13/#15 Badgers are fresh from a pair of ties (3-3 and
4-4) against WCHA leader North Dakota on Feb. 9-10, in Grand Forks...in
games played at Madison, UW owns a 16-9-0 series lead against SCSU, but SCSU
is 2-2 in games played at the Kohl Center...UW has played in school record
four consecutive OT games (UAA and UND) with the Badgers owning a 1-0-3
record in those games...Dany Heatley leads the team with 13 goals and 23
assists (36 pts), while Kent Davyduke has 9g/16a and Matt Murray has
11g/13a.  Graham Melanson has been the top goalie with a 15-11-4 record
(3.08 GAA/.907 SV%)

TEAM NOTES:  On Dec. 8, at the NHC, Wisconsin charted a 3-1 win over SCSU.
Tyler Arnason scored the lone goal in that game. The Huskies rebounded on
Dec. 9, with a big 5-0 win as Scott Meyer gained the shutout.  Joe Motzko
scored the game winner in that contest.  UW has only been shutout twice this
season (also suffered a 4-0 loss at Minnesota)...in WCHA games only, SCSU
ranks 4th with 3.68 goals per game and second with 2.59 goals allowed per
game.  In overall games, the Huskies rank first in the league with 2.33
goals allowed per game...in WCHA games only, Brandon Sampair and Mark
Hartigan rank seventh with 29 points apiece and Tyler Arnason is 13th with
24 points...in goal scoring Hartigan ranks second in the league with 18
goals.  Arnason is 5th in the league with 14 goals...Sampair is second in
the WCHA with 23 assists...Jon Cullen ranks first in the league with 4
shorthanded points...Scott Meyerıs 2.50 GAA (WCHA only) places him 5th in
the league, while his save percentage of .918 ranks him third...in the
season record book at SCSU, Hartiganıs 21 goals this season  ranks ninth
all-time, while Sampairıs 27 assists places him 10th in the records.  Jeff
Saterdalen owns the all-time single season assist record with 33 in 1989-90.
If Sampair averages one assist per game (he is averaging .93 per game so far
this season) in the next six regular season games, he would tie the season
record even before the team moves into postseason play...Andy Lundbohm
charted the first assist of his collegiate career on Feb. 9.  Lundbohm now
has three goals and one assist this season...Dean Weasler charted his first
shutout as a Husky since Feb. 12, 1999.  Weasler has four career shutouts at
SCSU and it was the third shutout for the Huskies this season - one each for
SCSU goalies Scott Meyer, Jake Moreland and Weasler.  The only time this
season that SCSU has been blanked was a 2-0 setback against Minnesota on
Nov. 17, 2000...SCSU been outshot 16 times by its opponents this season but
the Huskies are 10-6 in those games, including a 4-1 win at UAA on Feb. 10,
when the Seawolves outshot SCSU 27-25...at 15-7-0 in the WCHA this season,
the Huskies only need to win three of their last six games in the regular
season to equal the teamıs best ever WCHA finish.  In 1996-97, the Huskies
charted a team-high 18 wins in the WCHA (18-10-4)...captain Brandon Sampair
has a team-high four game scoring streak, dating back to Feb. 2...Mark
Hartigan has scored two or more goals in a game three times this
season...Sampair leads the team with 11 multiple point games this
season...on a roll, the duo of Sampair (22 pts.) and Arnason (19) have
combined for 41 points since Jan. 5.

BIG CROWDS: 123,504 people attended SCSU home games in 1999-2000, an average
of 5,881 per game...in home games this season, SCSU has an attendance total
of 81,347 for an average of 5,810 per game...On Nov. 17, SCSU was at
capacity for the first time in 2000-01 with a crowd of 6,685.
