There is a provision for a medical red-shirt. This would allow an
individual to playless than 20% of the team's games, which normally works
out to 8.
Under NO circumstances may a player play 1 second and be declared a
red-shirt unless he becomes injured. I don't know about other sports bu
this is how hockey works.
I was red-shirted and know that if you play anytime (even in emergency
situations) you lose a year of eligibility.
I agree with Ron Mason, that if he wants to preserve his goalie, he should
play the club team goalie. If he played the "red-shirt", he's only going to
play probably 1 or 2 times until the end of the year. Not worth the cost.
