I saw someone ask for the PWR using L20 instead of L16. Since mail
from maine.edu isn't getting through to me right now (admins at my ISP
and the list are working on it), I saw it in the big huge weekly file,
so I won't quote it or reply to it.

This was calculated using software I wrote myself. A word of caution -
when I checked against USCHO a week or so ago, we had a disagreement
about a couple of comparisons involving Niagara. No such disagreement
exists now, so I can only assume that my software is working right, but
there might be some minor glitches that I can't see.

On the whole, L20 has a much more settled comparison table towards the
bottom, but both tables are substatially identical at the top. Based
on an eyeball analysis, the bubble is still confusing. I narrowed it
down to four teams (Rensselaer, OSU, Notre Dame, and Princeton),
wherein RPI, Notre Dame each win two comparisons to Princeton and OSU's
one. Since Notre Dame beats RPI in their comparison, the Irish make
the field (by my analysis, anyway) instead of OSU. OSU makes out well
on L16 vs. L20 because (as I believe someone else already noted) they
didn't win all four of those games, whereas RPI and Notre Dame did.
Also note that Niagara is completely removed from any consideration by
using L20, even though their 1-2-1 mark in the games that were dropped
isn't all that bad. I think it was also noted that Denver and CC would
flip-flop, which would mean that they would have been exchanged in the
seeding.

One other interesting note - all but a handful (maybe three) of the
teams in contention for a tournament bid did better than their overall
winning percentage in the four games difference between L16 and L20.
Many did better than their L16 winning percentage. That's a very
interesting thing to note, thought I'll leave it to the powers that be
to decide its significance.

If anyone wants my full comparison output files, you are welcome to
email me - given that the mail from this list isn't getting through,
I'd recommend sending it to [log in to unmask] instead, as that may
be more reliable.

These tables are definitely best viewed in a fixed-width font.

PWR using L16 (standard, as of selection - does not include tonight's
