MAINE DEFEATS WAYNE STATE 4-1 IN WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY
    WOLF TIES ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD

Orono, Maine- The University of Maine scored two third period goals to
break open a 2-1 game as it defeated Wayne State 4-1 Thursday night at
the Alfond Arena in women s ice hockey action. Maine improves to 6-7-0
on the season while Wayne State falls to 3-12-0.
 Maine got on the board when Meagan Aarts (Watford, Ontario/Bluewater
Hawks) knocked in a Karen Droog (Listowel, Ontario/Peel Storm) shot
that had gone wide at 11:22 of the first period. Raffi Wolf (Voerde,
Germany/Gesamtschule am Laurhaas) scored the game winner for Maine at
17:39 as she tallied her fifth goal of the season. With the goal, Wolf
ties Alison Lorenz (UMaine  00) for the all-time career scoring lead
with 75 career points.
 Wayne State scored the only goal of the second period when Joanie
Denby (Sterling Heights, Mich./Warren Mott) beat UMaine netminder
Amanda Cronin (York, Maine/New Hampton Prep) at 3:39 to cut the Maine
lead to 2-1.
 The game remained 2-1 until Cindy Biron (Lewiston, Maine/New Hampton
Prep) registered her third goal of the season at 15:44 of the third
period. Droog scored her team leading eighth goal just over two minutes
later to put Maine up by two goals with just over two minutes to play
in the contest.
 Maine had a decisive advantage in shots as it peppered Wayne State
netminder Anna VanderMarliere (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Plymouth Canton)
with 48 shots on goal. VanderMarliere made 44 saves for the Warriors.
Cronin stopped 13 of the 14 Wayne State shots that she faced.
 These two teams will return to action on Saturday December 9, 2000 at
1:00 p.m. at Alfond Arena.
