HANOVER, NH - Pete Summerfelt's goal with 1:20 left in overtime broke a 1-1
deadlock, propelling the Dartmouth men's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over
No. 11 Maine Saturday night in Thompson Arena.
Summerfelt fired a shot from 35 feet away, beating Maine goalie Mike
Morrison. The Black Bears came into the contest ranked 11th in the latest
USA Today/American Hockey Magazine college poll.
After a scoreless first period, Dartmouth (2-5 overall) got on the board
first when Trevor Byrne took a pass from Summerfelt and scored on a slapshot
from the right point. The goal, Byrne's first of the season, came on the
power play with 15:05 gone in the second period.
The Black Bears (5-4-3 overall) knotted the contest at 1-1 when Chris
Heisten deflected Doug Janik's shot from the left point, beating Big Green
netminder Nick Boucher at 9:44 of the third. Boucher made 31 saves on the
night while Morrison stopped 36 for the Black Bears.
Dartmouth resumes action on December 9 when it hosts Northeastern after a
10-day break for the fall's final exam period.
Maine is back on the ice with a December 1 home game against Northeastern .
