As I write this, the Black Bears' first road trip to the greater Boston
area is just over two weeks away. Here are some suggestions for dining out
before the game:

No trip to the Boston area is complete without a trip to Café Brazil in
Allston. The parents of Maine hockey alumni Jason Vittorino own this fine
establishment. Several pictures of the 1999 championship team adorn the
walls of the restaurant. The food and the service are outstanding (try the
linguica or the fried bananas). Café Brazil is located near the Sports
Depot in Allston. It is about a ten minute walk from the MBTA's Boston
College Line (Harvard Street Station), and is pretty close to the
Massachusetts Turnpike.

NORTHEASTERN (November 4) - I think there is a Pizzeria Uno on Commonwealth
Avenue around the corner from Matthews Arena. Faneuil Hall and Quincy
Market are a short ride away on the Orange Line. The Harp is located on
Causeway Street across from the Fleet Center and offers a wide variety of
menu items (including great burgers). Now that baseball season is over,
another good place to visit is the Boston Beer Works, which is on Brookline
Avenue right across the street from Fenway Park. They brew their own beer
on the premises, and the sour cream and chive fries are to die for.

One final suggestion if you are planning to go to Northeastern - parking is
almost non-existent. Plan on taking the MBTA's Orange Line to the Mass
Avenue station. Matthews Arena is a block away on St. Botolph Street.

LOWELL (November 17) - Try the Mill City Brewing Company, which is a short
walk from the Tsongas Arena. The first floor houses an "upper scale"
restaurant, while the second floor has more of a pub-like atmosphere (with
pool tables, dartboards and some video games).

BOSTON UNIVERSITY (December 8) - See the suggestions for Northeastern. If
you want to experience the feeling of a British pub, try Cornwalls in
Kenmore Square. They have a nice selection of beer. If you're a fan of
Boddington's or Guinness, this is the place to go. I've never seen the
menu there.

Suggestions for UNH, Boston College, UMass and Merrimack will be posted at
a later date.
