St. Cloud State's Scott Meyer Gains All-America Honors

St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University senior goaltender Scott
Meyer, a resident of White Bear Lake and graduate of White Bear Lake High
School, has been named to the 2000-01 Jofa/AHCA Division I men's ice hockey
All-America team. Meyer was a second team West Region selection on the
Jofa/AHCA Division I men's ice hockey All-America team.
This marks the second consecutive season that a SCSU player has gained
All-America honors. In 1999-00, SCSU sophomore Mike Pudlick was named to
the Jofa/AHCA Division I All-America squad. Meyer is the 12th played in
SCSU hockey history to gain All-America honors, and the fourth player to
gain All-America accolades since the team went Division I in 1987-88.
Meyer had an outstanding senior season at SCSU in 2000-01. He helped
the Huskies gain a school record with 31 wins this season (31-9-1 overall)
and was in the nets for the Huskies' thrilling 6-5 overtime win against
North Dakota in the championship game of the WCHA Final Five this year.
This winter, Meyer set new team records for most wins in a season (25),
best goals against average (2.23), best saves percentage (.926), best
winning percentage (.750) and most points scored by a goalie (4). Meyer
also owns the team record for shutouts in a season with seven in 1999-00.
He completed his four year career as the Huskies career record holder for
best goals against average (2.38), best winning percentage (66.9%), most
career shutouts (9) and best saves percentage (.919).
    A two-time All-WCHA selection (2000 and 2001), Meyer was selected as one
of the WCHA's All-Stars for its 2000 summer tour of Norway. Meyer, who was
selected as USCHO's Division I Defensive Player of the Week on March 7, led
the WCHA with a .924 save percentage in league games this season. In the
NCAA, Meyer ranked among the nation's top seven Division I goalies for best
save percentage, best goals against average and best winning percentage this
season.
SCSU finished its 2000-01 season at 30-9-1 overall and placed second in
the always rugged WCHA with a 20-8-0 record (the most WCHA wins in school
history). SCSU claimed the Broadmoor Trophy with its win against UND in the
WCHA Final Five title game, and also advanced to the quarterfinals of the
NCAA Division I championships before losing 4-3 to Michigan. Throughout the
season, SCSU was consistently ranked among the top 10 NCAA Division I ice
hockey teams and hit an all-time program high with a #3 national ranking in
both polls on March 19.
