What makes Jim Leger's selection for the humanitarian award particularly
poignant is the way he made UMaine's hockey team--through sheer grit and
determination. I recall hearing Coach Walsh say a couple of times (during the
preseason of both his freshman and sophomore years) that although he loved
Jim's work ethic, he wasn't sure if Jim would make the cut. As it turned out,
during both training camps, Jim hustled so much and worked so hard that it
was impossible for Walsh to cut him . . . and the rest is history.
