Colorado College finally gets their first win at the new World Arena
tonight, as they defeat crosstown rival Air Force 6-2. Cam Kryway got
a power play goal hat trick. This was good timing for this win, as
hopefully it will give the Tigers momentum for this weekend when they host
Minnesota.

Only 4 penalties called in the first period, one of them at the very end
of it. CC converted on both of their power play opportunities for Kryway's
first two goals of his hat trick, at 7:35 and 19:14. The Tigers were up
2-0 at the end of one, but you couldn't count out Air Force yet, after the
way games between these two lately have been so close.

The officials must have decided that they didn't call enough penalties in
the first, because they started off with a bang in the second period.
Coincidental roughings were called less than 3 minutes in. Calvin Elfring
got a 4-on-4 goal 5 seconds later to make it 3-0. Then we get two more
roughings 8 seconds after the goal, but it's still 4-on-4. CC takes an
interference call 44 seconds later, and it's a 4-on-3 power play
opportunity for the Falcons. Then it's 3-on-3 17 seconds later as Air
Force takes an interference penalty. The original coincidentals come out
of the box and it's 4-on-4, then CC gets a 17-second 5-on-4 power play
before we're back to normal. Stewart Bodtker got his first goal after his
comeback 12 minutes in, making a flying leap as he shot the puck. Yet
another interference call, this one on CC, and then a slash called on Air
Force at the end of the period. The Tigers hold a 4-0 lead after two.

The third period started off pretty quiet, but just as I remarked to
someone else up in the pressbox "gee, it's been 7 minutes and they haven't
called a penalty yet...aren't they missing their quota?", two sets of
coincidentals and an extra minor for CC were called within 19 seconds. The
Falcons finally got on the board during this power play, with Mike McGuire
doing the honors past Colin Zulianello. The Tigers got it back a few
minutes later on their own power play as Kryway completed the hat trick.
Another roughing penalty late in the period on CC, and Air Force scores
again on the power play, this time Mike DesRoche. With the assist for this
goal, Justin Kieffer got his 100th career point. The Tigers got the last
goal of the game less than a minute later, on an unassisted goal by
freshman Justin Morrison.

CC outshot Air Force 37-25, but Falcon goaltender Aaron Ratfield made some
really great saves to keep the score from being higher. A pretty good game
to watch.
