Looking around at the number of folks from the northeast and north central parts of the US (who come down for the winter), I think that there is some familiarity with the game.
 
I even have converations about college hockey at work with others who appreciate the college game.
 
You might be right that there is no passion but hockey is getting a fair exposure here in the South.
