I think the Minnesota tradition of only recruiting Minnesota hockey
players is a "classy" practice. As others have said, it really takes on
meaning when you look at the long term. The Gophers have been consistently
good, better than good, over the years by relying on local talent, and I
say "more power to 'em."
 
I wonder if we have perhaps a generation gap here, with those screaming
"get real" current undergrads who want their team to win and want it
now. To them, a fine record over a number of years won't have the importance
it does for those who watched all those years of great hockey. There has
never in history been a team in any sport that didn't have a bad year once
in a while. To complain about such an honorable tradition as homegrown
recruiting just because the Gophers are off to a slow start this year seems
to me to be the epitome of short-sightedness.
